Food Sector Support Services
Momentum Consulting has extensive regional and national experience in the food sector and in particular specialise in guiding the development of food infrastructure resource projects and food company business planning as listed in earlier sections. We also concentrate on developing the skill base in the sector through designing and resourcing development and training programmes such as:-
National audit of Rural Food Companies
Completed national audit of Rural Food Companies on behalf of CLE (national association of Leader companies) – Momentum utilised the findings to secure a €450,000 training grant from Accel initiative and €350,000 under the Skillnets initiative for a national training programme. This research is used to inform the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs of the developmental needs of the sector which is currently being used to guide their strategic plan 2007 - 2013.
2008 Comhar LEADER na hÉireann Food Sector Resource Guide
Compiled the 2008 Comhar LEADER na hÉireann Food Sector Resource Guide which was used as a policy and programme informant guide to food sector projects which could be included in individual Rural Development Plans under the new LEADER programme.
Origin Farmers Market initiative
Project co-ordination support to the Origin Farmers Market initiative - We developed the strategic plan and co-ordination support to this LEADER Action 2 initiative which aims to facilitate the establishment of sustainable cross border farmers’ markets in eight towns in the areas of Leitrim/North Roscommon (Arigna Leader Company), Sligo (Sligo Leader Partnership), Donegal (Donegal Local Development Company), West Tyrone (West Tyrone Rural Ltd) and North Antrim (North Antrim Leader). The project worked to encourage and assist rurally based individuals and farming enterprises to develop appropriate food produce and products for sale at farmers markets, and to create accessible selling opportunities for such products, thus stimulating the rural environment.
